MARSHALL GETS NEW DOCK

This is indeed a great day or should I say last Saturday was a great day.  August 6, 2005.  A new dock was installed at our outpost camp on Marshall Lake.  Now, I will admit that doesn't sound like that should be such a big deal.  But, after you hear and see the story you will feel the way I do.  It is a big deal!!

First lets see a few pictures of the new finished dock.  I have them thumb nailed for faster loading, so just click on the thumbnail and see them better.

The above photo shows the finished product with Tom and Dan resting for a few moments.

The old dock has been removed and is sitting on shore as you can see next.

It is a floating type.  It had served us well, but was ready for retirement.

Now I must digress back to the beginning of the tale.  It all started down the road a piece where the dock was built.  It was loaded onto a truck and made its way across land and water to it final resting place.  Lets let the photos tell the tale.

The dock is one piece and 40 feet long.

This is the beginning of the docks travel powered my man alone for nearly one mile through the forest to get it to the lake.

Here we are loading the dock boards and other needed parts and tools before its trip through the forest.

As short breather on the trail.

And off we go again.

Here we are resting pushing and pulling the dock and its support parts and tools to the edge of Marshall.

At this point and time we had to load the boats and make the dock float so we could travel the two mile across the lake to the outpost.  Some of the fishing party came across and helped us load and carry.  It was quite windy and the lake was showing white caps on this side. Not a pleasant scenario.

Here is the dock readied for it trip across.  The plastic barrels will keep it afloat. Hopefully?

Now came the real fun, fighting the waves and wind.  We had to retie one barrel because the waves were just to much for the straps.  But luckily it held the second time.  The two boats that carried the gear and boards and other stuff had a hard enough of time getting across.  But it was about an hour after we reached  the outpost that Tom and Dan came out of the wind and onto shore with the dock in tow.  It was a bit lower in the water than when it started, but it made it.

These photos show the progress up to finish.

So, if that didn't make you tired just watching, you should have been there.  It was a great day to see the final product of all the effort put in by so many people

I personally want to thank them all for there help and the walleyes that we ate later that night.

EXCELLENT!!
