DUSEY LAKE

LOCATED 75 MILES NORTH OF NAKINA

This is Brook Trout Heaven

Dusey Lake has a new two bedroom cabin that will accommodate up to 10 persons.  It is located on the North shore one mile from the river mouth.  The river is a major tributary of the Ogoki River .

If you want to get into some great Brook Trout fishing, this is the place.  Just take a look at the photos below.  That's all that needs to be said.  Join us and have a trip you will never forget.

Dusey Lake provides real variety of fishing opportunities for you.  It has both lake and river fishing.  The lake is 5 1/2 miles long from river mouth to outlet.  Its average depth is seven feet with holes to twenty feet.  There are big point and bays along it entire length.  I has many large and small Walleyes.  In the summer large Northerns migrate out of the river into the lake to feed on the Walleyes.    There is also a population of Whitefish and Sturgeon in the lake system.

Click on the thumbnail below for a look at a photo of the lake.

We have a PDF file map of Dusey Lake for those of you that may want to print it out or look closer.

The following is from the previous owners description of Dusey.

Dusey Lake: Dusey Lake is a widening of the Dusey River which runs into the Albany and then into Hudson Bay. Dusey is a non stop producer.

Walleye: Right after ice-out, the Walleyes are right on shore. You can literally catch a ton of Walleyes while standing of shore. Later in the summer, the Walleye spread out all over the lake and can still be found in the river. The Walleye fishing is fabulous all summer long.

Northern Pike: At the west end of the lake, the water flows into the lake from the river. About 50 yards into the main lake from the narrows, there is a ridge where the water drops from 4 feet deep down to about 10 feet deep. There has been many trophy Northern Pike caught on this ridge. We had a customer in 2003 report that he caught 15 pike over 40 inches in one afternoon. You can not expect that kind of fishing but you never know.

Brook Trout: To get to the Brook Trout, you have to go up river. You have to pull the boat up the first rapids and then drive to a small waterfalls. Below the falls is where the Brook Trout are trapped and can not get back up over the falls. Usually there are lots of Brook Trout in the 1 to 4 pound range. You will also catch lots of Walleyes there. The motor might spook the trout so tie your boat to a tree and quietly wait for about 20 minutes and they will start hitting.

UPDATE

This last season we have been doing a lot of fishing for brook trout throughout the summer.  We have been fishing up stream and downstream looking for where the trout are holding up.  We have had surprising success farther upstream and down.  We have made a couple new portages around the rapids.  Our rewards were with catching many nice brookies.  Take a look at some of the photos below.  The walleyes and northern pike fishing is always great, but the trout fishing was much better than expected for August.  If you are a trout fisher person, you need to check this camp out.
